History
The word Veterinary appears to have been derived from the Roman word ‘VETERINARIUS’, which means group of Horses or Cattle. A person treating animals were then called as VETERINARIAN. A person having knowledge of ailments of animals and their treatment were called as SOUVETAURINARI.
In China , Kind FUSI (8000 years BC) collected information on animal diseases. During ZHOU regime (1111 to 771 years BC) documents on medicine, surgery, nutrition were made. In the year 947 to 928 BC, during the regime of Kind ‘M.U.’ bleeding in horses was practiced. A small book on emergency treatment in animals was written during ‘Ge Hong’ regime (AD 265-317). During ‘TANG’ regime (AD 618-907) Veterinary Science progressed considerably. Acupuncture in Horses was known during AD 581-618.
In Iraq , persons treating animals were paid some remuneration (1800 BC) officially.
