SOCIAL FORESTRY ACTIVITIES |
|
The District is having 22.46% deficit of the forest cover to the suggested percentage of 33.3% under National Forest Policy. Therefore the afforestation programmes are to be concentrated in areas outside Reserve Forests. These lands include mainly (i) Government Vacan Lands (ii) Village Communal Lands and (iii) Patta lands of Ryots. In order to improve the cover in the District various Social Forestry Programmes have been taken up in the District. The Social Forestry Division, Eluru was opened on 1-12-1984. |

C) Farm Forestry Programme : (T.P.-11 of A.P.F.P.) |
As per Staff Appraisal Report, the T.P.-11 is designed to help the farmers of weaker sections and backward classes to raise farm forestry plantations in the degraded lands where raising of agricultural crops is not possible. Thus making the lands productive and generate substantial income to the poor sections of the society. The group approach is adopted for raising plantations with incentives to the farmers on raising successful plantations. The strategy is to target all private landholders through group approach. Coastal areas of West Godavari are selected for implementation of T.P.-11 as the areas are sandy and not suitable for agriculture. Keeping in view the agro climatic condition of the areas, Casuarine apecies is selected for planting. Under A.P.F.P. 1000 ha. of areas has been planted, details are given hereunder: |
