WATER CONSERVATION MISSION

Water is indispensable resource for the sustenance of all life and is the basic need for all activities right from agriculture to industry.

 
 

With the ever-increasing pressure on human population, there has been a severe stress on water resources. Neglect of traditional bodies like tanks and ponds, indiscriminate exploitation of ground water, improper maintenance of surface water system has aggravated the problem still further.

 
 

In light of this backdrop, to give the required impetus to the water conservation efforts, to converge various programs and to co-ordinate the activities of various departments engaged in water conservation the Government of Andhra Pradesh has set up Water Conservation Mission under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Minister empanelled with the experts and eminent persons.

NEERU - MEERU

Government of Andhra Pradesh sought to bring all the water conservation activities into campaign mode and has launched Neeru-Meeru program on 1st May 2000 with an objective of focused onslaught on man made phenomenon of drought and water shortage.


 

The program aims at creating awareness amongst people to ensure their participation and to facilitate co-ordination of conservation efforts of various Government departments. And the same is reflected in the nomenclature "Neeru-Meeru" meaning "Water -You"
