Andhra Pradesh is located in South India, and has a population of 70 million people. The main language spoken in the state is Telugu. The state is organised into 23 districts, and each district is sub-divided into smaller administrative units called Mandals. On the education front, each Mandal has a Mandal Education Officer who has a team of officers and teachers who work towards achieving the goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education.

CD based learning to children in e seva centres in West Godavari district

West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh has started E seva kendrams in 46 mandal head quarters of the district. These kendrams initiated by the district government identifies Self Help Groups and rural youth who are given training and other support for starting and managing the centres. There are 46 centres, 15 run by SHGs and others by rural youth. These kendrams offer a variety of services including collection of electricity bills, issue of various certificates to the citizens, receiving and forwarding complaints etc. These centres will now also be used to provide computer assisted learning through CDs to children in the age group of 6 – 14 years.

As part of the MoU, Azim Premji Foundation will provide the educational CDs to these centres, besides providing training to e seva kendram nirvahaks and RSDP nirvahaks on the use of CDs for enhancing learning and management support on a need base at the request of the District Administration

Foundation's programmes

In an important step towards achieving Universalization of Elementary Education in the state, the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Foundation signed the Memorandum of Understanding in July 2001.

Government of Andhra Pradesh conducted a major programme called "Chaduvula Panduga" betwwen 2002 throughout the state for mobilising community participation in the enrollment of out of school children, improve the school atmopshphere and the quality of learning.
