OBJECTIVE

The objective of the organisation is integrated rural development through implemen-tation of anti poverty programs including Self-Employment wage employment and area development program.

The DRDA West Godavari has established in 1979 to monitor various schemes of State and Central Governments for developing Villages in the District.  DWCRA Groups were started in 1994. SGSY was implementing from 1999-2000 and then itself the DWCRA Groups were called as Self Help Groups.

EVOLUTION

Government of India decided to extend the Integrated Rural Development in the Country from Gandhi Jayanti of 1980.

At present, there are (22) DRDAs in our State. There is no DRDA for Hyderabad, as Hyderabad District is an urban district.

In order to implement watershed programmes and other programs. Implementation of these programmes are entrusted to one and same District Level Agency which is implementing IRDP at the District Level. The Agency is headed by District Collector as its Chairman.

The Government of India decided to restructure the self-employment programmes and new programmes known as “Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana" has been launched from 1st April 1999. The DRDAs are implementing the programme.
